NYC Business Solutions Center Hosts Non-English Language Classes

As part of the NYC Department of Small Business Services’ Immigrant Business Initiative, Jackson Rockingster of the Haitian-American Business Network (habnet) hosted a Haitian-creole language class of ‘10 Steps to Starting Your Own Business’ at the Flatbush YMCA in East Flatbush on Tuesday, August 26. NYC Business Solutions Junior Account Manager Chantal Valencia Lawrence spoke of the services provided by NYC Business Solutions and answered questions from attendees. There were 22 persons in attendance and Jackson did a great job teaching the class.

SBS Commissioner Torres-Springer Addresses Brooklyn Economic Development Community at BKEX

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce today hosted the second edition of its Brooklyn Economic Exchange – or BKEX – series event, featuring the City’s Department Small Business Services (SBS) Commissioner Maria Torres-Springer, who addressed a packed room on her vision for small business and the goals she has for her administration.

Held in at Borough Hall, in partnership with the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office, BKEX is our quarterly convening of BIDS, LDCs, and other economic interests throughout the borough. The purpose is to give a forum for interaction between organizations that are on the ground doing economic development, business support and promotion, and the heads of government agencies on both the City and the State level that are guiding and creating policy and implementing programs that impact our organizations and Brooklyn’s economy.

Brooklyn Public Library's PowerUP! Business Plan Competition

PowerUP!Calling All Entrepreneurs

Turn your business idea into a reality with help from the Brooklyn Public Library and you may win $15,000 in start up capital. Entrepreneurs throughout Brooklyn are eligible to participate in Brooklyn Public Library’s PowerUP! Business Plan Competition. All contestants have access to free resources and services to help them write a business plan.

You must attend an orientation to learn the rules of the competition and get instructions on how to apply. The first class is tonight at 6 p.m. at the Business & Career Library.
